Today's song of the day is one of my all time favorite songs from the band Garbage. They are one of the best live bands that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing live. This song is back from their 1995 self titled debut album. I remember that a friend in high school was really into them, but I really wasn't too familiar with the album. One summer driving around town we listened to the album all the way through, and I thought it was a really good album. Being a guitar player myself, the instrumentation really resonated with me. There were these overdriven guitars, a use of some really interesting guitar effects, and on top of it all some great vocals.
I have always thought that guitarist Duke Erikson had some of the greatest guitar tone of any recent band. I'd love to know exactly what he uses to get that tone. From the opening harmonics of "Queer" there are some great guitar parts. Especially the overdriven guitars that come in at the chorus. Just a great guitar song. All of these musicians are so, so talented. From Duke's guitars, toButch Vig's drums, to Steve Marker's guitars, to Shirley Manson's amazing vocals. The music that they produce is extraordinary.
Check out one of the first singles from "Garbage," here is "Queer."
