Song of the day.............Tone-Loc with "Wild Thing"

Let's keep it rolling today with another R&B/Pop song from the '80's - '90's. I just love the riff in this. He could be talking about how bad Rock music is, and I would be oblivious to it. That riff and that drum line is damn catchy.......Check out Tone-Loc with "Wild Thing."

Song of the day.........Boyz II Men with "On Bended Knee"

Everybody that knows me knows that I'm a Rock guy to my core, but in the early '90's and at some times since then I've been known to dabble in listening to Pop and R&B. One of my favorite R&B groups from the '90's was Boyz II Men. I just loved the harmonies that they had going, and all of their stuff was so catchy. I still to this day like some of their hits including this one. Check out "On Bended Knee."

Song of the day..........Suicide Machines with "Numbers"

Today's song is the shortest song of the day so far clocking in just under a minute.......so my description will be short as well. I really don't like much of their material. It's just too much screaming in my opinion. Here is the Suicide Machines with "Numbers."

Song of the day..........Train with "Hey, Soul Sister"

In the last ten years or so there has been a resurgence of music created in which a Ukulele was the prominent instrument. Eddie Vedder did a solo album, where the Uke was used in virtually every track. My friend and his wife made a Christmas greeting video that they sent out to friends and family that had a Uke in it. Our local music stores here have probably 2 Ukes for every guitar that they are currently selling. It's kind of crazy.

One of the biggest hits in recent years with a Uke involved was Train's "Hey, Soul Sister," which ended up being one of the biggest singles of their career. This video is part of a TV series called Live from Daryl's House, which features Daryl Hall. Check out "Hey, Soul Sister."

Song of the day...........Cage the Elephant with "Cigarette Daydreams"

Cage the Elephant has been around since the mid 2000's and received a good amount of radio air play with their single "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" in the last couple of years. Today's song is from the band's 2013 album "Melophobia." It's got an interesting sound to it and I really dig it. A pretty decent acoustic rock song from these guys. Song of the day.........Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with "Lien On Your Dreams"

Today's song of the day is from the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Way, way back in the day I saw these guys at this little club in Denver called the Lion's Lair. A great venue to see such a great Rock band. Anyways, today's song of the day is from their "Baby 81" album, and the track is called "Lien On Your Dreams."

The title alone, and lyrics on their own make this a great song. Then though BRMC has added some incredible music as the backdrop for these lyrics and all together makes this a great song. Just the title "Lien on Your Dreams" can mean so many things......As a child we are all taught that dreams are endless, boundless things, and to think that their might be a lien on our dreams is an interesting perspective. I think everyone can kind of relate to that on some level at some point in your life.

Love the guitars on this too........That driving bass line, and those guitars coming in during the verse with pulsing chords just make this one of my favorites.....so check out "Lien On Your Dreams."

Song of the day...........Depeche Mode with "In Your Room"

I really started to like Depeche Mode after they released the "Songs of Faith and Devotion" album. It came out at about the time that I was really watching an absurd amount of MTV, and the videos that they released were just like videos that nobody else was doing. I don't honestly remember the video for this track, but I remember really liking this song from the album. It was after buying this album that I started to look more at some of their back catalog.

This is just an amazing track from the "Songs of Faith and Devotion" album. Check out "In Your Room."

Song of the day.........Garbage with "Queer"

Today's song of the day is one of my all time favorite songs from the band Garbage. They are one of the best live bands that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing live. This song is back from their 1995 self titled debut album. I remember that a friend in high school was really into them, but I really wasn't too familiar with the album. One summer driving around town we listened to the album all the way through, and I thought it was a really good album. Being a guitar player myself, the instrumentation really resonated with me. There were these overdriven guitars, a use of some really interesting guitar effects, and on top of it all some great vocals.

I have always thought that guitarist Duke Erikson had some of the greatest guitar tone of any recent band. I'd love to know exactly what he uses to get that tone. From the opening harmonics of "Queer" there are some great guitar parts. Especially the overdriven guitars that come in at the chorus. Just a great guitar song. All of these musicians are so, so talented. From Duke's guitars, toButch Vig's drums, to Steve Marker's guitars, to Shirley Manson's amazing vocals. The music that they produce is extraordinary.

Check out one of the first singles from "Garbage," here is "Queer."

Song of the day..........Van Halen with "Feel Your Love Tonight"

I always mention on here that my preference is with the Hagar led Van Halen years..........Then every Van Halen song that I have selected thus far for song of the day has been a Roth led Van Halen song..... Today is no exception. This one is off of Van Halen's 1978 self titled debut album. Check out this live version of "Feel Your Love Tonight." This live version is from 1977 before the album was released.

Song of the day.........Depeche Mode with "Halo"

One of my favorites off of the album "Violator." It is often overshadowed by some of the other great tunes on this album, and some of Depeche Mode's hits. This song is just so well written though. Lyrically I love the line...."like a halo in reverse." Just a beautiful metaphor, and such a great line. The music is incredible as well. The song just builds throughout. Just so good!!! Check out "Halo." It's one of the lesser known tracks on this album, but it holds up today as just a great song.

Song of the day..........Serena Ryder with "What I Wouldn't"

It's happened very rarely in my concert going experience, but it does happen. You get your tickets and see that there is an opening act performing before the band that you are going to see. You are not familiar with the opening act, but you decide to get there early to give them a listen.........and they amaze you. It's happened just a few times in the concerts that I have gone to, but I definitely had that experience in seeing Serena Ryder at Red Rocks..... I knew nothing about her, and her band before the show, but was very impressed. The songs had these great hooks, and beautiful vocal harmonies. One song that really amazed me was "What I Wouldn't." It's this just beautiful rock song. One of the best songs I've heard in the last year for sure.......check it out.

Song of the day...........Machine Head with "Bulldozer"

I know lots of folks like these guys, and I think the music is really good, but the vocals are hard for me......I really can't understand what is being said, and I have a hard time with that. See what you think after listening to "Bulldozer," today's song of the day.......

Song of the day.......AC/DC with "Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll"

Every album that AC/DC releases proves one thing. These guys still have it. These guys are the masters of the power chords..... "Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll" is off of 2000's Stiff Upper Lip album, and is just AC/DC at its best. So, eat up some Turkey, Green Bean Casserole, and crank up this AC/DC track!!!

Song of the day..........Goo Goo Dolls with "Black Balloon"

This is one of my favorite Goo Goo Dolls songs. From the opening notes of the keyboards, which just create this eerie backdrop for the whole song, to the powerful chorus and bridge, this song is just beautiful. Some bands have this knack of just creating powerful hooks, and riffs that stick with you. Goo Goo Dolls have always had that. Listen to any album and you will find hooky rock music.

Song of the day.........Persephone's Bees with "Way To Your Heart"

Song of the day............"Don't Get Me Wrong" by The Pretenders

The headlining act at the very first concert that I ever attended was The Pretenders. I wasn't a huge fan of their music at the time to be honest, but over the years I have developed a respect for what they did musically. Their catalog has so many great hits in it. One of them is this great tune. I really love the ending kind of climax to the song where the distorted guitar kicks in and plays that riff to close out the song. Really puts an exclamation point on it. Check out "Don't Get Me Wrong."

Song of the day.........Stabbing Westward with "I Don't Believe"

Today's song of the day is from this band Stabbing Westward. I remember having this album Wither Blister Burn & Peel on cassette in High School. I think I wore the thing out. This album has so many great tracks on it. It was similar to the grunge music that I was listening to at the time, but it also had some similarities to some of the stuff that Nine Inch Nails was doing at the time. I think that's why I really liked this album. This is the opening track off of that album. This remains one of my favorite albums of all time.

Song of the day.........Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with "American Girl"

I've always really liked this song. It's just so basic, but oh so catchy. This video is great too back from 1980-82. It's great to see old videos of Tom Petty and the band....... I still can remember buying the Tom Petty Greatest Hits album back in the day......and seeing them live twice back in 2006. One of the great rock bands of our time without a doubt. Check out this video of "American Girl."

Song of the day..........Pearl Jam with "Sirens"

So, today the new Pearl Jam album drops. An event that only happens every 2-3 years..... I would argue that Pearl Jam's last album, Backspacer, was their best complete album yet. Lyrically, and musically it was just incredible. They did some things lyrically on that album that I really haven't seen done from them in the past. So, give "Sirens" a listen. It's something different from Pearl Jam.

Song of the day......Pantera with "The Art of Shredding"

I honestly am not a big fan of Heavy Metal, however, there are a couple of bands that I think do it the right way. Or maybe I should rephrase that. They do it in a way that a Rock guy can admire. These guys are all super talented, and I feel like the songwriting for this band was really well done. I dig it really. Check out "The Art of Shredding" from their "Cowboys From Hell" album.

Song of the day........Mercury Rev with "Pick Up if You're There"

One of the most fun to watch live bands that I've ever had the pleasure of seeing is Mercury Rev. Mercury Rev are a band that, after 1998's Deserter's Songs album, relied heavily on keys and experimentation with unique instruments to complete their sound. If you listen to Deserter's Songs there are so many things going on. The album just has so much depth. I love albums like that. Most of Wilco's albums are like that for me as well, with the exception of A.M. I suppose. Anyways this Mercury Rev track is a instrumental from Deserter's, and features lead singer David Baker on violin/saw. It doesn't get much more experimental than that right?

Song of the day................Drain S.T.H. with "Crack the Liar's Smile"

Drain S.T.H. is an all female metal band from Sweden. I saw them live at Red Rocks back in the early 2000's and was very impressed. All of their stuff is very melodic, and they just have a great sound. This is one of my favorites off of their debut full length album "Horror Wrestling." Check it out......

Song of the day........Ozzy Osbourne with "See You On the Other Side"

1995's Ozzmosis album from Ozzy really didn't get a whole lot of attention, but it should have. It's just a great album. I would say one of Ozzy's best. Just really well written, and it was a really diverse album. There is a piano ballad as the closing song. That's pretty diverse for Ozzy, whose albums are predominantly straight ahead rock albums. This is one of my favorite Ozzy songs. Just love the guitar effects during the verse.

Song of the day........Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with "Hate The Taste"

This was one of my favorite bands to come out of the '90's. These guys just have this kind of retro feel to them..... I always think of early Stones stuff when I hear these guys. Just great Rock music, and brilliant song writing. Check out "Hate the Taste" from their most recent album.........

Song of the day...........Fear Factory with "New Breed"

I know these guys were pretty popular when I was growing up, but I'm really not a big fan to be honest. Maybe I'm just getting old, but some of the heavier, aggressive music that I liked growing up really doesn't hold up for me. I'll give more Fear Factory stuff a listen, but this is just kind of a so-so song for me honestly. Give it a listen though, and let me know what you think.......

Song of the day........Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with "Complicated Situation"

I remember seeing Black Rebel Motorcycle after their debut album was released. Saw them open up for the Dandy Warhols, and then saw them a few months later at this little bar "Lion's Lair" in Denver. Just a great band. Playing rock music that sounds very retro. Sounds like some of the early stuff from the Stones...... Today's song of the day is a track off of their second album "Howl." This one's called "Complicated Situation."

Song of the day.............Metallica with "Enter Sandman"

I think I appreciate this band now more than I did in the '90's.....Always kind of liked their music, but had more appreciation for them when they released the "Load" album. That had some different things going on with it that really sounded great....... That kind of got me into some of their older stuff including the black album....... Here's one of the hits off of that album.

Song of the day.........Metric with "Help I'm Alive"

This is one of my favorite songs from the last five years..... This guy that I used to work made a mix-CD that we always used to listen to at work, and this was one of the tracks that was on it. The first time I heard it I just thought that it was amazing. I still listen to it and love all the parts of it...... Just a great pop rock song.... Check out this song from Metric....

Song of the day.........Wilco with "Either Way"

This may be my favorite opening song to any album that I own to be honest. It's just so absolutely beautiful!! The way that the song builds.....Everything just sounds so good. You can hear each individual instrument and they each contribute to make this beautiful piece of music. The entire "Sky Blue Sky" album is fantastic, but it starts with this great tune. Check it out.....

Song of the day............Cake with "Frank Sinatra"

This is one of my favorite tracks from Cake's "Fashion Nugget" album. I just love the trumpet, and lead guitar parts in this. Just really well done. The video for today's song of the day comes from one of the Late Show with David Letterman concerts. He has done a lot of online concerts when bands come to play on the late show, and there are a bunch of them on Youtube. Some really great performances.........this one is no different.

Song of the day..........Stabbing Westward with "How Can I Hold On"

There were so many great Stabbing Westward songs........I've decided to make another one the song of the day. "Darkest Days" is just a great album. "How Can I Hold On" is one of my favorites off of this album. Really dig the synth opening......great stuff.

Song of the day........The Cult with "Wildflower"

I really like this band! All of their stuff has a strong emphasis on the power chords.......their music is almost like an Alternative Rock version of AC/DC. Lots of emphasis on the power chords with just this awesome guitar tone.......I really like what material I've heard from The Cult. Good driving music........and this track is no different. This is "Wildflower."

Song of the day.........Audioslave with "Out of Exhile"

To be honest there isn't an Audioslave song that I dislike, so they may all end up being songs of the day at some point. Today's Audioslave song of the day is  the title track from their second album "Out of Exhile." I always wondered what was causing that sweeping effect during the intro. Now looking at this Youtube video I can see that bass player Tim Commerford is playing muted strings through some effect pedal. I love that effect, and he uses it a couple of more times during the song. Enjoy some Audioslave on your Sunday......

Song of the day.......Audioslave with "Until We Fall"

Today's song of the day is from the now defunct band Audioslave. It's a great track off of their final album "Revelations," and the song is called "Until We Fall." Let's hope that Rage Against the Machine gets back together for good at some point.........because with Soundgarden now back in full swing the idea of an Audioslave reunion doesn't seem likely. Never say never though........

Song of the day........Toad the Wet Sprocket with "Walk on the Ocean"

Today's song of the day is from Toad the Wet Sprocket, and was one of the songs that put them on the map back in the early '90's. "Walk on the Ocean" is such a beautiful song. I remember at the time that I was really into the Grunge music scene. Was really listening to a lot of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and the likes.......and one day the video came on MTV for this. It just blew me away. It was this catchy, and lyrically powerful song that still resonates with me today. That little distorted slide guitar riff about 3/4 of the way through the song still gives me the chills. Great song, from a great band of musicians.

Song of the day.........Glenn Kotche with "Monkey Chant"

I have always had the utmost respect for drummers. The ability to have the hand eye coordination to keep a hi-hat going, a bass drum going, and hit a snare in perfect time amazes me. There is no way that I will ever be able to play the drums. I've tried and I'm just plain bad. There are people like Glenn Kotche that take it to the next step. Glenn is the drummer for the band Wilco, and a couple of years ago he released a solo percussion album that is just amazing. Listening to it doesn't do it justice though. I am very grateful to have seen him play at the Boulder Theater when the album came out, and he's just amazing. He's got so much going on, and he creates percussion out of some of the most obscure objects. Just plain amazing. Check him out......this is one of my favorites off of his album "Mobile." It just has this kind of creepy sounding little riff to it, but it's just beautiful.

Song of the day........3 Doors Down with "The Road I'm On"

3 Doors Down are great at producing straight ahead rock tracks. Their sophomore album was no different than the first. Lots of rock. There aren't a whole lot of deviations from that in the formula that 3 Doors Down uses. It's just great Rock and Roll. I saw them tour off of their first album, and they put on a great show. Check out "The Road I'm On."

Song of the day........Landon Pigg with "Blue Skies"

Landon Pigg is quickly becoming one of my favorite song writers. Really hooky songs, and great melodies. He's got a great voice too. I may need to pick up one of his CD's. Great stuff. Just some great acoustic rock music. Give his track "Blue Skies" a listen.

Song of the day.........Jimmy Eat World with "A Sunday"

This is one of those bands that I've kind of been on the fence about. Some of their material that hasn't been overplayed on the radio is actually really good. Case in point this track. Heard it for the first time this weekend and really thought it was well done. A nice sounding track. Check it out......

Song of the day.........Violent Femmes with "Color Me Once"

Definitely in my top five Violent Femmes songs. I love the bass line in this. The bass part in this might be my favorite bass part in a song honestly. It just drives this song so well, and it gives it such a great feel. Really good song that was originally featured on "The Crow" movie soundtrack. It's worth a listen. Especially for all of you bass players out there.

Song of the day............U2 with "Sunday Bloody Sunday"

Rolling Stone magazine called the live performance of this song from a concert at Red Rocks in 1983 one of the "50 Moments that Changed the History of Rock 'n' Roll." It was an incredible moment for U2, and was another step in the bands continued success. "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is just a song that everyone knows is U2. It's one of their classic hits. Enjoy this video from June 5th, 1983 of U2 performing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" live from Red Rocks.......

Song of the day.........Audioslave with "Gasoline"

Audioslave.........four amazing musicians. That's pretty much all you can say. I loved Rage......loved Soundgarden, and Chris Cornell joining the remaining musicians from Rage was epic. So many great songs on this first self-titled album. One of them is this track......"Gasoline."

Song of the day...........Blur with "Song 2"

Blur is one of my favorite bands. I became interested in them kind of late in their career after the success of "Song 2." That led me to pick up some of their first few albums, which are epic. 1992's "Modern Life is Rubbish" is still one of my favorite albums of all time. This song kind of got it all started for me with this band. I've always felt that Damon Albarn is an absolute genius. From his work with Blur to his work with Gorillaz he is just amazing. Check out "Song 2" so that you have it stuck in your head all weekend.......

Song of the day..........Young MC with "Bust A Move"

Before the Grunge scene in Seattle broke in the early '90's I was a huge fan of the Dance music at the time. I remember listening to C&C Music Factory, Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson, Bel Biv Devoe, Boyz II Men, and this guy Young MC. This was probably one of the top ten dance songs of the late '80's early '90's. The track also features Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass, and you can see him in a couple of clips in this video. I listened to KS 104 all the time in the early '90's and this track was played almost on an hourly basis. Check it out........

Song of the day.........George Winston with "Carol Of The Bells"

With temperatures in the '90's today, Christmas is probably the last thing on anyone's mind. I thought today though we would look at one of my favorite Christmas songs, and try to remember when it was '40 degrees out. I have always loved this Christmas song, and George Winston's arrangement of this is just beautiful. Check it out!

Song of the day...........The New Cars with "Good Times Roll"

One of the best revised lineup bands that I've ever heard is The New Cars. Most bands that are resurrected with a new lineup never live up to the original. Especially when you replace a lead singer. That usually never works. I honestly can't even comprehend a Stone Temple Pilots, for instance, with vocals from the guy from Linkin Park. I can't see how that can work. I guess Van Halen may be the ultimate successful band that has changed lead singers and still maintained their success. Not far behind them though should be these guys. Todd Rundgren steps in and makes these songs sound like they are supposed to sound. The guy obviously knows his stuff. Check out this version of "Good Times Roll."

Song of the day.........Supergrass with "In It For the Money"

This is another one of those bands that I've only heard a few tracks from, but can tell that they are the real deal. Supergrass has a great sound, and this song is one of my favorites that I've heard from them. Just great. A very short song, clocking in at just over 2 minutes, but it packs a punch in those 2 minutes. Check it out.....

Song of the day........Brad with "Yes, You Are"

I can't say enough about this band "Brad." Just a great band. Today's track is off of their album "Welcome To Discovery Park," which is my favorite album by Brad. "Yes, You Are" is one of the albums closing tracks, and with good reason. It just starts out as this mellow piano ballad, and gradually builds with a guitar solo driven, all out rocking outro. Just another great track from these guys.

Song of the day............Blink 182 with "Feeling This"

I wouldn't go see them live again, but I have respect for what they did musically. There are a few really good Blink 182 songs. This is one of them. I really like how this song sounds. This live version doesn't highlight necessarily some of the vocal harmonies that are going on in this song, but if you listen to the album version the last 20-30 seconds is really well done vocally.

Their live show is a mix of stand-up with their music, and the stand-up quite frankly begins to really grate on you after a while. A fan of their tunes though.

Song of the day........Trans Siberian Orchestra with "Moonlight and Madness"

Today's song of the day is from TSO. One of my families favorite artists. This track is "Moonlight and Madness" and is off of their "Night Castle" album. Such a great group of people in this band. We've had the pleasure of meeting these guys, and they are all just great people first, and amazing musicians second.

Back in the early '90's I listened to mostly Rock music. There were times though that a Pop/R&B song came out that I thought was really well done. I have to admit that I've always liked Boyz II Men, and some of the earlier Mariah Carey stuff. I thought that earlier in Mariah's career she was doing a lot of this kind of gospel inspired pop. "Someday" was a great song from the early Mariah discography, but then in the late '90's it got all hip-hop-ish, and I didn't really get it. This track comes from the time period when both Boyz II Men and Mariah were at the top of their game, and this is just a great track. Their vocals all sound great together, and it's a moving song lyrically as well. I still kind of like it to be honest.

Song of the day..........Coldplay with "Paradise"

Today's song of the day is one of my favorites from the band Coldplay. Damn their music is infectious, and they keep churning out these amazing pop/rock tracks. Viva la Vida was just an amazing album. Then they follow up with Mylo Xyloto. I believe the 2nd single from that album was this track "Paradise," and it's just amazing. I love how well Coldplay uses piano in their music. Most of their songs have a piano. Sometimes it's not as prominent in the mix of the track, but it's there. Check out "Paradise."

Song of the day.........Stabbing Westward with "Nothing"

This was the song that initially got me listening to Stabbing Westward. Such a great band!! Just a really good rock band to be honest. Definitely one of the top bands of the '90's era in my opinion. This song was just wicked good. I love the verse guitar riff, and the guitarists use of harmonics. Makes for an interesting sound. Over their career they just wrote some great music, and really integrated the use of synth, but knew how to use it to complement what they were doing, but not overshadow everything else in a track. Great stuff!!

Song of the day.............Burning Brides with "Flesh and Bone"

I'm listening to more and more stuff from these guys. My wife and I originally saw them open for Audioslave back on Audioslave's first tour. I really like their stuff. Simple, catchy, rock riffs with maybe a darker edge then say the Black Keys....... Check out their song "Flesh and Bone," and see what I mean. Simple song structures, but really well done........

Song of the day.......Van Halen with "Mean Street"

I think I've mentioned in previous Van Halen song of the day posts that I like the Sammy Hagar years over the David Lee Roth years. I don't know that I've posted a Hagar on vocals Van Halen song of the day though yet. I keep listening to older Van Halen and there is some really great stuff. A couple of weeks ago we were cleaning the house, and I pulled out some old Van Halen cassettes that I had from the High School days....... This track was on one of those cassettes and it is just an amazing song. From Eddie's crazy solo at the beginning, to the great rock chorus........ Great vocal harmonies at the chorus that really make this song........

Song of the day..........Alice In Chains with "Over Now"

Today's song of the day is from the 1995 self titled album by Alice in Chains. "Over Now" may be one of the greatest album closers in the sense of it being a great song, but also being the last song on the last album featuring singer Layne Staley. On this track  I love the bridge in this. That slowed down bridge part just sounds beautiful with those individually played notes. Then the bridge comes back for that final outro guitar solo. Really nice!!

Song of the day........Jason Mraz with "I'm Yours"

Ok. I admit I like this......... It probably qualifies as a guilty pleasure. I'm not putting Jason Mraz bumper stickers on the Durango if that's what you are asking, but I do dig this song. It's got a nice feel. This kind of Hawaiian Tropics, ska, folk song......... See what you think. Hey, maybe you will be ordering a Jason Mraz bumper sticker for your vehicle. Maybe, just maybe........

Song of the day.............Dave Matthews Band with "Crash Into Me"

Today's song of the day comes from the Dave Matthews Band. An incredibly talented group of musicians for sure. The "Crash" album is just a great album. I don't typically listen to Dave Matthews Bandish type of music, but when I do I listen to "Crash." It's just got a little bit of everything. I've always really liked the song "Crash Into Me" off of this record. I'm not sure exactly what Dave is singing about, but the music is just beautiful. One of my favorites from DMB for sure.

Song of the day.........Brad with "Price of Love"

How about some new stuff from the band Brad for your Monday? I love these guys. Shawn Smith has such a soulful voice, and is absolutely amazing. He's in my top ten rock vocalists for sure. I've really liked all of the material that this band has dished out over the years. I saw them perform two nights in a row up in Seattle, saw them once up on the hill in Boulder at Tulagi's, and then again the next day down at Independent Records down in Denver. That day I got to meet all of the band members. What a great group of guys, and what a great band!!!!

Song of the day.......V.A.S.T. with "Three Doors"

With some things it's all in the name. That certainly is the case with the band V.A.S.T.(Visual Audio Sensory Theater). All of their albums are so incredibly well done. At the center of it all is singer/songwriter Jon Crosby, who is honestly one of the top songwriters in my opinion of the last decade. The engineering and recording of the instrumentation and the sampling of monk chants is just so brilliant. I remember seeing them live at the KTCL Big Adventure concert in Denver that year, and they played on the 2nd stage. I don't know if there was anyone left at the main stage as it was just packed out there to see these guys.

Their debut album was one of the best albums that I ever bought in the '90's, and featured this song titled "Three Doors."

Song of the day.........The Out Crowd with "If You're Cool"

Back in the early '90's I remember a friend of mine playing The Dandy Warhols "Every Day Should Be a Holiday" track and just being flat out amazed. That turned me on to this group of Portland based bands that have bios that link to one another. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and The Out Crowd. If you want to watch an amazing rock documentary look no further than "Dig." It is an incredible movie about these amazing bands. Specifically the movie does highlight the career of The Brian Jonestown Massacre, which for most of the bands career had Matt Hollywood on lead guitar. Matt left The Brian Jonestown Massacre at some point and created The Out Crowd.

I got a chance to see them open up for The Dandy Warhols when they came to Denver years ago, and they put on a great show. Their debut album is great as well. This is one of the highlights off of that album and is called "If You're Cool."

The Out Crowd with "If You're Cool"

Song of the day..........Queen with "We Will Rock You"

It's hard to say that there is a more popular song played at stadiums for sporting events. If you get a ticket to a sporting event, you can almost guarantee to hear this song at least once during your attendance at the stadium. A very simple song, but simplicity equals greatness on this Friday's song of the day.......I'm a little late at getting this one posted.

Song of the day.............Audioslave with "Show Me How To Live"

I know that I've already talked about my respect for the band Audioslave in previous posts. Their brief career brought us some really great music. Their self-titled debut album was just amazing. One of the songs that got quite a bit of airplay upon the release of the album was this song "Show Me How To Live." Great song, and an interesting Tom Morello guitar solo. Not a whole lot going on with the solo other than quick toggling of the pickup selector switch. The guy can make sounds with his guitar that I've never heard others make.

Then you add Chris Cornell, who I think is one of the greatest rock vocalists of our time. Just an amazing band.........

Song of the day..........The Cult with "Rain"

Everything I hear by the '80's band The Cult I like. I honestly think this is one of the best bands from the '80's. Their music just has this great guitar tone. "Rain" is a perfect example of the guitar tone that I'm talking about. I'd like to know how he gets his guitar to sound like that. It sounds great. This is a great video of the band playing "Rain." What a great band........

Song of the day.........Stabbing Westward with "So Far Away"

Stabbing Westward may be one of the best bands that you may not be familiar with. They had a couple of singles that performed well on the charts, but they never really caught on. Every album though is great, every song is catchy, and their music was just awesome. I saw Stabbing Westward live a couple of times, and they did not disappoint. Maybe one of the stranger pairings was when I saw them open for Depeche Mode back in the late '90's. Great band though.

Song of the day......The Black Keys with "She's Long Gone"

One of my favorite new bands is The Black Keys. They've just got an interesting sound. They sound like a blend of Robert Johnson infused blues, and Jack White's guitar riffing. It sounds cool, and I really dig the stuff that these guys are releasing. Here is one of their songs titled "She's Long Gone."

Song of the day.........Sex Pistols with "Pretty Vacant"

There are so many good songs off of the Sex Pistols "Nevermind the Bollocks...." album. One of my favorites is "Pretty Vacant." It's just got such a great sound to it. I really like the chorus....... It's almost even melodic. Almost.

Song of the day..........Steve Miller Band with "The Joker"

He's had some classics over the years, but Steve Miller may best be known for his hit song "The Joker." I've always been kind of on the fence about the Steve Miller band until I heard some tracks off of a live album a couple of years ago. Just really good jam band stuff. If you like the stuff on his studio albums, also check out his live stuff. I think it's a lot better than the studio stuff to be honest.

Song of the day...........Therapy with "Wall of Mouths"

I've just recently started listening to music from the band Therapy? This is probably my favorite track that I've listened to so far from them. This track is all the way back from 2000. Give it a listen and see what you think.

Song of the day........Creed with "Higher"

I must first say that I am not a big fan of Creed. I've just never thought that it was all that great, but I do have to say that they did put out a couple of songs that I don't mind. One of those from Creed is "Higher." I really like the music to this. The guitarist for Creed is incredibly talented. I'll give Creed that. So, here it is, Creed's "Higher."

Song of the day.........Garbage with "Run Baby Run"

One of my favorite live bands of all time is Garbage. They are just flat out an amazing live band. Last year I got to see them play at the Ogden, and just as in years past they were absolutely wonderful. Shirley, Duke, Steve, and Butch are so incredibly talented. In 2005 Garbage released their "Bleed Like Me" album. One of my favorite tracks off of that album is "Run Baby Run."

Song of the day.........Suzanne Vega with "Tom's Diner"

Song of the day............Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds with "Typical Situation"

I've always liked the Dave Matthews Band. I've seen them live once some time ago, and they put on a great show. Recently I've started listening more and more to some of Dave Matthews stuff with Tim Reynolds. Tim Reynolds is this amazing guitarist that accompanies Dave Matthews on most of his solo performances. Check out this performance from this "Live From Las Vegas" album. This song is originally a Dave Matthews Band song. Check it out.......

Song of the day........Brian McKnight with "Back At One"

Like I've said in previous posts occasionally my music listening strays from the Rock genre. Today's song of the day comes to us from the Pop/R&B genre, and is from Brian McKnight. I have always liked Marvin Gaye and songs, and songwriters that remind me of him usually get my attention. McKnight at times reminds me of an early Marvin Gaye. He's got a great voice, and this song from 1999 has always been a favorite of mine.

Song of the day...........Interpol with "The New"

I have to thank Yahoo internet radio for turning me on to these guys. This New York based rock band has put out some great albums including "Turn On The Bright Lights," which features the song "The New." These guys just have a really unique and great sound. There music to me has always sounded rather dark and mysterious too. Their songs go in directions that are often times not really predictable.

Song of the day........Oasis with "Wonderwall"

It was one of Oasis' biggest hits, and for good reason. It's an absolutely beautiful song. Every music project that I have ever been a part of has played this song. It was something that people my age grew up with. The album "What's The Story (Morning Glory)" was for our generation what "Frampton Comes Alive" was for the '70's. It was always in your backpack, or on your dresser next to the CD player. It was as common as salt in most of our homes. Simply put the album was amazing, but "Wonderwall" was what got us into it. The strings, the guitar, those great drum parts, and the vocals.

Yesterday the music project that I am currently in played this live for the first time in front of our audience, and the response was like something I have never seen for one of our songs. So, almost 20 years after this song came out it still holds true. This is an amazing song.

Song of the day..........The Verve with "Bittersweet Symphony"

If you were asking me to name some of my favorite cover tunes of all time this one would be close to the top of the list. The Verve's 1997 album "Urban Hymns" included a cover of a lesser known Rolling Stones song called "Bittersweet Symphony." It is just all around a great sounding song. The strings just add so much to this track. It's just a great rendition of a song, and a great example of a band taking a song and just completely overhauling it to make it their own.

Song of the day........Bratmobile with "Affection Training"

Today's song of the day is from the Punk Rock/Riot Grrrrl band Bratmobile. Bratmobile was one of many bands that rose to popularity from the Grunge scene of the Pacific Northwest. Back in 2000 the band reunited and released the "Ladies, Women & Girls" album, which featured this track. Check out "Affection Training" by Bratmobile.

Song of the day........Great Lake Swimmers with "See You On The Moon"

I think there's a lot of great kids music out there. The kids music these days doesn't seem as cheesy as the kids music that I remember when I was growing up. This song is a prime example of some of the great kids music that is out there now. This song is from the Great Lake Swimmers, and is called "See You On The Moon." Enjoy......

Song of the day..........AC/DC with "It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)"

This is one of my favorite AC/DC songs, and it all has to do with three words. Bag Pipe Solo. Seriously, Bag Pipe Solo. No, I'm serious. Bag Pipe Solo. Has any other rock band had a Bag Pipe Solo in it? I honestly can't remember another. I guess Korn may have used it in a couple of songs, but the way it is used in this song is just plain epic. This has always been one of my absolute favorites. Enjoy!

Song of the day.........Bobby Brown with "My Prerogative"

Ok, I admit that I like Bobby Brown's music from the late '80's, and early '90's. One of my favorites is this song from his "Don't Be Cruel" album. I thought this album was really good. Honestly not a fan of some of the stuff he's done since, but I like this album. It's a blast from the past to be watching this video from Bobby Brown's performance on The Arsenio Hall Show.

Song of the day..........Oasis with "Live Forever"

Oasis was one of my favorite bands throughout the '90's. Their first two albums were incredible. This track is from their first album "Definitely Maybe." It's just a great song. Their song structures were pretty simple, but they were, and still are, some incredibly catchy songs. Each and every song more catchy than the last. Say what you will about the Gallagher brothers, but they are pretty good songwriters. Pretty darn good.

Song of the day...........The Beatles with "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away"

Today's song of the day comes to us from one of the most successful Rock bands of all time, The Beatles. So, so many great songs were recorded by these guys over the years. One of my favorites is this track. A very stripped down Beatles track with not a whole lot going on. I find myself liking some of the later Beatles stuff more than some of the earlier stuff. I really like the albums that were absolute studio marvels. The earlier stuff from The Beatles were just really hooky Rock/Pop songs that were so incredibly well written. Maybe one of the most talented groups ever based on each individual members talent, and song writing ability.

Song of the day.........Pearl Jam with "Off He Goes"

Today's song of the day is one of my favorites off of the 1996 Pearl Jam album "No Code." The press and fans of Pearl Jam at the time have always been kind of hard on this album. Most saying that it was a complete change for the band, and maybe not as aggressive as the previous three albums. I think quite the opposite. I think the album showed tremendous growth for the band. When you can go from the song "Blood" on Vs., and then do a song like this two albums later, I think that's rather dynamic. I tend to like bands that change it up a bit every album, and experiment more and more as time goes on. I think that makes  it interesting. If every song sounded like "Alive" or "Jeremy" it would start to become very predictable. I love how this band has evolved and really adapted to what they wanted to do, not what a record label wanted them to do. That's why I've always respected this band to the highest degree. It's their way or the highway....

Anyways, "Off He Goes" is just a beautiful track. Check this version of it out from the 2003 Benaroya Hall show in Seattle.

Song of the day........Snow Patrol with "Run"

This is one of my favorite songs from the band Snow Patrol. It's just got a great sound to it. I especially like this live version of it, where the crowd is singing over the lead singer. It is always a great moment at a concert when the crowd sings together in unison like this. Enjoy......

Song of the day.........Stabbing Westward with "What Do I Have To Do?"

When I was in High School I used to drive my parents car back and forth between home and school. I remember the car stereo had a tape deck, and I had a select number of tapes that I used to play over and over and over again. One of those albums was "Wither, Blister, Burn & Peel" by Stabbing Westward. They were one of my favorite bands. It was probably one of the first bands that I really got into that used synthesizers in quite a few of their songs. This would later lead me to check out such bands as Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and others that really mixed synth and rock flawlessly. Listening to this album reminds me of my daily drives to school, and my drive between school and the Career Development Center (CDC) back in the High School Years. This album was on most of those drives for sure.

Song of the day..........Nirvana with "In Bloom"

I was in middle school/high school when the Seattle scene really broke out. Out of that scene came bands such as Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Candlebox, and of course Nirvana. Nirvana has often been credited for the breakout success of their Nevermind album bringing attention to the other bands at the time. That may be a justified argument considering the depth and power of Nirvana's 2nd official album. Every track is just phenomenal, and every song just sounds great and holds up over time. I am a huge Pearl Jam fan, but have always had a tremendous amount of respect for what Nirvana did over their short career. Nevermind has always been a favorite album of mine, and "In Bloom" is one of the highlights for me.

The song, to me, almost feels like a jab at the rock/pop music of the time. Where most of Nirvana's songs are very aggresive, this one is kind of a very calculated pop/rock song. When you watch the actual video that was released for this you see the band playing on a TV talk show similar to the Ed Sullivan Show. Again, I think it's all kind of a jab at Top 40 music if you will, and I like it. Check out "In Bloom."

Song of the day.......Deftones with "Change (In The House of Flies)"

This is one of my favorite songs from the early 2000's. This track is off of the Deftones album "White Pony," and was a big hit for them when that album came out. It's just a great song. I've always really liked the Deftones, and I will always remember when I saw them on the Warped tour, and all of the people that were crowd surfing. I've never had a concert experience like that since. Give it a listen. I think you will like this track too.

Song of the day.........Aaliyah with "Are You That Somebody"

Why not some modern Pop and R&B for your Friday? Today's song of the day is from Pop star Aaliyah. I have to admit I kind of like the bass line and it's kind of catchy. I'm not sure though that I like the sample of a baby laughing that is played throughout the track. After a couple of times that gets a bit old. Not a bad song though. I know I'm typically a rock guy, but every once in a while I don't mind a little pop music. Especially since it's Friday!!! So, check it out!!

Song of the day.........Iggy Pop with "Search and Destroy"

I should first say that I'm not a big fan of Iggy Pop to be honest. I've just never been that into his music. There are a couple of songs of his though that are so much a part of the punk rock scene that it's hard not to take notice of them. One of those is "Search and Destroy." It's a classic Iggy song, and below is a link to a great live version of this track.

Song of the day........Brad with "Revolution"

Pearl Jam's band members have created some amazing side projects over the years. One of my favorites is guitarist Stone Gossard's side project Brad. It really is a bit unfair to call it a side project as they have had a great deal of success and really are independent of the band Pearl Jam. My favorite album by them is the album "Welcome To Discovery Park" named after a park north of Seattle. It just has a great mix of hard rock songs, and great acoustic rock songs. One of the heavier songs on the album is "Revolution," which sounds like the guitars are in a open tuning and just full of distortion. Shawn Smith adds his amazing vocals, and it just completes the song.

Song of the day.............Mick Turner & Tren Brothers with "Help Mr. Rabbit I Can't Get Out"

Song of the day..........Angels & Airwaves with "Everything's Magic"

Today's song of the day is "Everything's Magic" from Angels & Airwaves. Angels is fronted by Tom DeLonge from Blink 182, who I've always been kind of on the fence about to be rather honest. There are some Blink songs that I really like, but I'm not a fan of most of their material. In fact, Blink was the only concert that I have ever left halfway through. Their concert was kind of this mix of music and stand-up, which after about forty five minutes had kind of run its course. You have to appreciate though their career, success, and the fortitude that they have had through personal tragedy. Anyways, I'm still trying to get into this song, but give it a listen and let me know what you think.

Song of the day.........The Rolling Stones with "Jumping Jack Flash"

Today's song of the day is "Jumping Jack Flash" from the Rolling Stones. Why? Because it's Friday!!! It's Friday!!! This has always been one of my favorite Stones songs. The Stones were probably not even in my top five classic rock bands when I was growing up, so I've kind of been turned on to them later in life. I find myself loving more and more of their hit songs. I need to get some of their albums though and listen to some of those in between tracks. Finding the tracks in between the hits and liking them is such an enjoyable experience, because you can enjoy a band or songwriter for material that is new to you, and hasn't been in rotation on the radio since the '60's or whatever. Anyways, enjoy the "Jumping Jack Flash," and jump because it's Friday.

Song of the day.........Goo Goo Dolls with "Sympathy"

Today's song of the day is from the Goo Goo Dolls 2002 album "Gutterflower." "Sympathy" is a little acoustic number that was probably the highlight off of the "Gutterflower" album. The song features lead singer/guitarist Johnny Rzeznik on acoustic guitar, and there is also a Mandolin throughout the song. This is one of my favorites from this Buffalo, New York band. Give it a listen.

Song of the day............Big Head Todd and the Monsters with "Please Don't Tell Her"

Today's song of the day is from the Colorado based band Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Their songs are the result of a perfect mix of Rock, Blues, and Soul. Todd Park Mohr's voice and bluesy guitar riffs just complete this song. As evidenced by this clip, they are also a great live act.

Song of the day...........Third Eye Blind with "How's It Going To Be"

Even if you weren't a big fan of Third Eye Blind in the '90's you couldn't help but respect the fact that every single that they released was more and more catchy, and contagious. If you heard one of their songs earlier in the day you would inevitably end up humming or singing the song later in the day........ That's a pretty powerful thing to have that kind of effect from your music. One of those songs was "How's It Going To Be."

Song of the day.........Alanis Morissette with "You Learn"

Today's song of the day is from Alanis Morissette from the album that made her a household name in the early '90's. To this day it's the song that I remember most from this album. It was an album that had hit after hit on it, but this one has always stood out to me. I love the bridge from this song. The vocal thing that Alanis is doing just goes so well with the little riff that the guitarist is playing. I love that part in this song. So, for your Monday, it's one of my faves from Alanis.

Song of the day...........The Vines with "Ride"

Happy Easter everyone!!! Today's song of the day comes to us from The Vines. I like a couple of their songs. Other than that I really haven't listened to much of their material. I do like this song though. I think it was in a commercial a few years back, although I can't remember the product that was being pitched. The song has a nice feel to it though. Song of the day...........Goo Goo Dolls with "Iris"

Honestly one of the best live bands that I have seen over the years has been the Goo Goo Dolls. They just put on a great show with lots of energy. After the success of "A Boy Named Goo," the Goo Goo Dolls released a single for the "City of Angels" soundtrack called "Iris." The song is arguably one of their biggest singles, and further propelled the Goo Goo Dolls to become one of the most popular bands of the '90's. The song later appeared on their sixth studio album "Dizzy Up The Girl."

The Goo Goo Dolls, much like Soul Asylum, were not an overnight success. In fact the Goo Goo Dolls originally formed in 1986, and actually featured bass player Robby Takac on lead vocals, and were more of a punk rock band than a rock/pop band.

Anyways, enjoy one of their biggest hits as the song of the day today.........

Song of the day.......Pearl Jam with "Breath"

Today's song of the day is one of my faves from my favorite band Pearl Jam. To me no single band captures the emotional triumphs and struggles of life quite like Pearl Jam. Their album "Ten" was one of my first CD purchases way back in middle school, and I couldn't stop listening to it. Throughout the years their music has gone through quite a lot of changes, but one thing remains the same. The band continues to churn out tunes that are honest, emotionally powerful, and absolutely amazing. I like their most recent album "Backspacer" as much as I like their debut album. They are the most powerful, and emotionally charged live act that I have ever seen. Today's song is not one of PJ's big radio hits, but rather was a song that appeared on the soundtrack to the Matt Dillon, Kyra Sedgwick, and Bridget Fonda movie "Singles," which featured a soundtrack of mostly Seattle bands, and grunge music. For me it's one of their best songs, and you may have never heard it before........ So, give it a listen and have a great Friday.

Song of the day.........The Ramones with "Chinese Rock"

How about some Ramones for your Thursday? Today's song of the day comes to us from that iconic rock band the Ramones. I've always really liked the Ramones, and their music style. The recipes for most of their songs are the same. Power chords, a fast moving beat, and a guitar solo thrown in their very sparingly. That recipe has produced some of the best rock songs of the last three decades....... This song did not get a whole lot of coverage when it came out on the Ramones 1980 album "End of the Century." It's a great track though, and I'm sure you will be humming it at some point today if you give it a listen.

Song of the day........Justin Roberts with "More Than Just A Minute"

Children's music artists are a lot better now than I remember from when I was growing up. A prime example of that is Justin Roberts, who my family has seen a couple of times. His music is so well done that it appeals to kids and parents alike. His songs are catchy too. If you hear it once I guarantee you will be humming a Justin Roberts song at some point later in the day. Today's song of the day is Justin Roberts song "More Than Just a Minute." Give it a listen. It's good quality children's music.....

Song of the day.........The Amazing Royal Crowns with "King of the Joint"

I can only understand every other word that he is saying, but "King of the Joint" is a great song to get you motivated. How can you not want to go run around the block after hearing this? I should have listened to this before I went to the gym today. Probably would have ran a mile in half the usual time. Anyways, check out the Amazing Royal Crowns with "King of the Joint."

Song of the day..........Black Francis with "Seven Fingers"

Whether you call him Frank Black or Black Francis the end result is always the same. Great music, with very unique song structures, and even more unique lyrics. Frank Black is one of the best though. His solo work mirrors some of the great songs of college radio from the band that he fronted, the Pixies. Today's song of the day is the title track off of one of his solo albums "Seven Fingers."

Song of the day..............Iron & Wine with "Flightless Bird"

Today's song of the day is from Iron & Wine, who I've honestly only heard a couple of tracks from. The thing I'm drawn to in this track is the vocals. I usually get sucked into a song by a cool guitar riff, or an interesting chord progression. I listened to "Flightless Bird" and just was sucked in by the beautiful vocals. This guy has an amazing voice. This is a great song to start your lazy Sunday with. Give it a listen........

Song of the day...........Ozzy Osbourne with "Rock 'n' Roll Rebel"

Today's song of the day is a song off of Ozzy's "Bark at the Moon" album, which is largely known for by the title track, but unfortunately everything else on that album never really saw the light of day at least on rock radio. Not a bad track. The verse kind of has that same kind of progression as one of Ozzy's best known hits "Crazy Train." It's an interesting listen, and equally as interesting as this live video from the 1984 tour. Why is half the band so far away from Ozzy and the guitarists? That just looks ridiculous. "Ozzy, where is your drummer?" "Oh, he's upstairs." Kind of a weird stage setup, but the song is worth a listen. Check it out.

Song of the day.........Landon Pigg with "Falling In Love At A Coffee Shop"

At first I was not to fond of this song to be honest, but after listening to it a couple of times, and watching the video for the song I now am starting to like it. It's a bit of a mellow song for a Friday, but it's pretty good. Give it a listen and have a good weekend!!

Song of the day.........Carolina Liar with "Show Me What I'm Looking For"

This song is one of my favorite finds of the the last year. I don't remember this song coming out at all back in 2009, but I heard it for the first time about a year ago and really liked it. It's got a cool sound. I like the use of the bells in the chorus. It doesn't seem like there are a whole lot of songs that incorporate bells, and I think this song would just be good without them. They add a whole new dimension to this song in my opinion. So, check out Carolina Liar.

Song of the day............Screaming Females with "Halfway Down"

I miss the screaming in music. I really do. Kurt Cobain's scream after the bridge in "Drain You" off of Nevermind was one of many moments from the '90's Grunge music period that I really felt captured the moment. All of these bands in that era that were struggling to live/survive, and the emotion that came across in those songs.

I hear that same emotion, the raw screams that convey so much, in the Screaming Females music. This song personifies that feeling of emotion that is so often not conveyed in music.

Song of the day.........Jane's Addiction with "Just Because"

Jane's Addiction lead singer Perry Farrell has had a tremendous impact on music for the last two decades. Through his multiple music projects including Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros, and Satellite Party he has always been at the forefront of the alternative music scene. In the early '90's he also created one of the biggest alternative music tours called Lollapalooza. Since the tour started in the early '90's every band that was hip played the tour. It was a who's who of the alternative music scene.

And then there's Perry's own band Jane's Addiction, who were a big part of the alternative/college radio scene. Today's song of the day is from the Jane's Addiction re-boot in 2003, and is called "Just Because." Sometimes when a band gets back together the music just isn't as relevant. I don't think that's the case with these guys. I like "Just Because" as much as I like some of their stuff from the '90's. Give it a listen......

Song of the day........Danzig with "Mother"

This video for the live version of Danzig's "Mother" was released back when I was in High School, and I'd be lying if I said that my friends and I didn't laugh every time it came on MTV. It's a song that maybe has grown on me over the years. From laughing at it to now when I take it maybe a bit more seriously than I did in High School. It's not a bad song. In fact it's pretty catch if you listen to it a couple of times. Give it a watch/listen, and try not to laugh or get the song stuck in your head for the better part of a day.

Song of the day.........Ryan Adams with "English Girls Approximately"

Today's song of the day is "English Girls Approximately" by Ryan Adams. This song is one of my favorites of all time. The song really builds from first just being Ryan on guitar and vocals and then every other piece of the band coming in one after another. Until the end is Ryan singing the outro and this distorted guitar playing over the top of his vocals. It just has a great sound, and is just a beautiful song. I am a big fan of this one.

Song of the day..........Peter, Bjorn and John with "Up Against The Wall"

I'm really starting to like these guys......... Today's song is a loose jam by this band from Sweeden. Lots of cool things going on with the guitar in this track. The phase shifting guitar part that comes in at the halfway point is great.

Song of the day.......The Amps with "Hoverin'"

Kim Deal is quite possibly the queen of college/indie radio.........if you want to put a label on her music which includes bands such as the Breeders, the Amps, and the poster band for indie radio, The Pixies. Today let's listen to a track from her band The Amps, which Kim formed shortly after The Pixies decided to take some time off. "Hoverin'" is a great track to begin your look at this great band.

Song of the day..........Audioslave with "Shadow On The Sun"

Today's song of the day is off of the debut album by Audioslave. I've always been a big fan of Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden, so my interest in Audioslave was pretty immediate. My wife and I saw them on their first North American tour date after this album came out and it was absolutely amazing. Tom Morello is in my list of top five guitarists of all time. He can make his guitar make sounds that you would not expect to be made from a guitar. He's absolutely phenomenal. Check out the solo in this track. Just amazing.

Song of the day............"What Went Wrong (In Your Head)"

Today's song of the day is from Supergrass' 2000 self titled album. I love the rock piano in this. I'm a sucker for a rock piano.......These guys have been making great music for quite a while, and have always been kind of under the radar. They are worth checking out.

Song of the day.........U2 with "New Year's Day"

My timing is a little off on this one, but I still got it posted in January. This one if my favorite track off of the "War" album. A great album, but this song really stands out. I don't think you can go wrong with a piano in a rock track. The piano part is so beautiful in this track. Just a great song by the guys in U2.

Song of the day.........Van Halen with "Jamie's Cryin'"

What says Friday better than a David Lee Roth era Van Halen song? I don't think there would be a better Friday song choice. Today's song of the day is an early Van Halen song called "Jamie's Cryin'." Now I've mentioned before that I am more of a Hagar Van Halen fan than the Roth years. If I want to back that up though I guess I should come up with some Hagar era Van Halen songs to pick as song of the day. Don't get me wrong though there are some great Roth Van Halen songs including this one. Happy Friday!!

Song of the day.........3 Doors Down with "Not Enough"

Today's song of the day is from 3 Doors Down off of their album "The Better Life." I love the guitar tone on the verses......and then that heavy riff at the chorus. I've always liked their music. A great song for a Friday!! Have a great weekend!!

Song of the day.......Glen Phillips with "Cleareyed"

If there is one album that you cannot go without it is "Winter Pays for Summer" by Glen Phillips. It is the most complete album that I've ever listened to. That includes albums by my favorites......Pearl Jam....Wilco.......Led Zeppelin........ All of those bands and musicians have great albums but each album has at least one or two songs that you could do without. This album is not like that. You can listen from start to finish each time, and never feel the need to skip over a track. It has every emotion, and each song has such a great hook. Glen is such an amazing songwriter. Pick up "Winter Pays for Summer." You will be glad you did.

Song of the day........Caspar Babypants with "Free Like A Bird"

Having an 8 year old son in the house means that we also have some children's music in our listening rotation.   I don't remember children's music being as good as it is today. Now there still are some artists and songs that are not really good, but the majority are not bad. Why not start off your Monday with some Caspar Babypants? That's right........I said Caspar Babypants. Yes, Caspar Babypants. Check out their song "Free Like A Bird."

Song of the day.......Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with "The Toll"

These guys write great melodic songs. Every album that they've put out has these absolutely rockin' tracks, and then they also put on these beautiful acoustic blues/rock numbers like "The Toll." They are a really talented band, that seem to get better with every album. I remember way back in the day when I saw them at the Lion's Lair in Denver. I was standing outside, because it was so hot and crowded inside, and here was Black Rebel Motorcycle Club standing by a U-Haul trailer with all of their gear. That was one of the most memorable concerts that I've ever gone to.

Song of the day.........Van Halen with "Dance The Night Away"

Today's song of the day is from the Roth Van Halen years. I think I've mentioned in a previous Van Halen song of the day post that I'm not a fan of the Roth years. I much rather would listen to Hagar sing vocals, and I think he does really good on the Roth era tunes. "Dance The Night Away" just has some cool things going on with it. Eddie's got some really catchy riffs, especially that main verse riff.

Song of the day..........Screaming Females with "Bell"

The song of the day for today comes to us from the Screaming Females. A unique punk/hard rock three piece band from Jersey. This track is titled "Bell," and starts out innocent enough, but about 40-50 seconds in the singer just goes off. Enjoy!

Song of the day.......Wilco with "Theologians"

One of my favorites off of "A Ghost Is Born" is "Theologians." Just a great song. I especially like the little guitar solo bridge at the 1:50 mark in this video. Just a very short solo, but it just adds so much to this song. I don't think the guys in Wilco can do wrong. Great song, great album. great band.

Song of the day...........Goo Goo Dolls with "Name"

I think this was kind of the big break through song for the Goo Goo Dolls. I still listen to this album occasionally. It's a fantastic album that mixes beautiful rock ballads such as this with heavy rock tracks. One of my first concerts was seeing these guys at Red Rocks. They put on a hell of a show.

Song of the day.......Screaming Females with "Boyfriend"

My friend Ryan got me started listening to some of the Screaming Females stuff. It's pretty good stuff. I got a chance to see them open up for Garbage in October of last year and they are great live. A good band to see if they are ever in your area.
