Song of the day.... The Temptations with "My Girl"

Today's song of the day is one of my favorite tracks from The Temptations. This track just pretty much has everything. It's just brilliantly written. From that opening bass line, to the guitar riff during the verse, to that pre-chorus drum part. I just love it. There's a horn section, a string section, great vocal melody... What more could you want? It's just one of the best in my opinion. So, check out "My Girl."

Song of the day.... Nine Inch Nails with "Lights In The Sky"

Way back in high school there was a kid who always wore shirts with the "NIN" logo. He had this punk rock haircut, and kind of lived by the beat of his own drum. I talked to him a few times about what music he was into, and he got me interested in Nine Inch Nails. It was definitely more aggressive, more sonic, and electronic than the '90's Seattle stuff that I was listening to at the time. It was all so well written though. The writing wasn't to get songs on radio. It was these sonic landscapes of sounds that just all worked so well. I recently saw an episode of Austin City Limits that Nine Inch Nails was on and it was just amazing. So, check out this track from NIN.

Song of the day... Bad Religion with "New Dark Ages"

It's been a while since I've posted a song of the day... Let's see how many of these I can string together this time. Bad Religion is the first band that I ever saw play at Colorado's infamous concert venue, Red Rocks. It was 1995, and Pearl Jam played two shows with Bad Religion opening each night. My friend Adam and I decided to go to the 2nd night on 6/20/95. It still remains as one of the most amazing concerts that I've ever been to. Bad Religion had just put out this album "Stranger Than Fiction," that was just great start to finish, so it was great to see them and Pearl Jam in the same evening. Over the years I've kept tabs on Bad Religion's releases, and one of my favorites since "Stranger" is this album "New Maps of Hell." Just some great tracks on this album including this track "New Dark Ages." One of the things that I really dig about this track is the group of vocals at the chorus. Just adds this really full element to the chorus that is really cool. So, check out "New Dark Ages," by Bad Religion.
