Song of the day.... Pink Floyd with "Speak To Me/Breathe"

The Dark Side of the Moon album is amazing in every possible way. I'm not sure why none of their songs off of it haven't been on my song of the day blog yet, but it is certainly due. This track is the opening number off of the album. Such a great song. The opening is all of these speaking parts and all of these different effects. It's just a great opening to this record. Some amazing production work on this record. Then "Breathe" kicks in and it's just this great mellow opener to the album. Guitars lacquered in reverb, and this beautiful slide guitar part. It's just this wonderfully magical opening to a great album.

So, check out Pink Floyd with "Speak To Me/Breathe."

Song of the day.... The Cardigans with "Lovefool"

There were so many great bands in the '90's that I was into. I always thought that The Cardigans were a pretty strong band. I mean they didn't have the same affect on me as other bands of that era did, but they really had some decent songwriting. I really dig the Guitar and Bass stuff that is going on during this track. Now, it was vastly overplayed on radio, and I think that kind of got it a bad rap... It's actually a really clever track. I probably have more respect for it now than I did back in the day. So, check out The Cardigans with "Lovefool."

Song of the day.........Eagle-Eye Cherry with "Save Tonight"

Today's song of the day is from Eagle-Eye Cherry. To be honest, I'm not sure if I've heard any other tracks by this gentleman, but I heard this track pretty frequently back in the late '90's. It's a pretty decent track. So, check out today's song of the day. Eagle-Eye Cherry with "Save Tonight."

Song of the day........ Weezer with "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here"

The "Blue Album" has by Weezer has to be one of the best albums of the '90's, but if you've only heard the songs that made it to radio you are really missing out. Some of this albums bests tracks in my opinion are the ones that you've probably never heard. One of those is this great track "The World Has Turned And Left Me Here." It pretty much rocks right out of the gate. The vocal harmonies on this track are really good, and compliments the song the whole way through. In particular that pre-chorus guitar riff and the vocals that go along with it are just magical. Just a great all around track from Weezer.

Song of the day...... Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds with "Gravedigger"

I really dig these acoustic tracks with Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds. The two really compliment each other quite well, and have created some really amazing musical moments. Many of these are evidenced in the Live at Radio City album. One of my faves off of that album is this song "Gravedigger." Just some amazing guitar work going on here... So, check out "Gravedigger."

Song of the day.........Rancid with "Time Bomb"

The '90's was an amazing period for music. I was so fixated on the Seattle scene that I missed out on some really great tracks that were being put out by bands on the outskirts of the Seattle scene. Case and point with this band Rancid. I was familiar with some of the radio tracks, but not some of the deeper cuts. I am discovering that "...And Out Come The Wolves" is just a really great work of music. There are some really great tracks on this album. Today's song of the day though is one of the tracks that was pretty well played on the radio in the '90's. It's this track "Time Bomb." I like Punk music, and at times I like Ska music. Rancid's sound is described by many as Ska Punk. You can hear a pretty good mix of both genres in this track. It's one of my faves from Rancid. Enjoy "Time Bomb."

Song of the day...........Satchel with "Isn't That Right"

I always dig discovering side projects from bands that I really like listening to. Today's song of the day is from this band Satchel, which is related to a side project of Pearl Jam. I started listening to Brad, a side project of Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard, shortly after they released their first album. At the center of Brad is this amazing vocalist/keyboardis Shawn Smith. He is also in Satchel, along with the tremendous Regan Hagar on drums. The Seattle Music Scene is really this web of connected artists. It's really interesting. I once saw a flow chart in a magazine that showed how all of these Seattle musicians were in related musical projects. Anyways, today's song of the day is off of the Satchel album "The Family." Just a great album with some really good Rock tracks. I love the piano part in this, and the bass line that is played during the guitar solo. Really good stuff. So, check out "Isn't That Right" by Satchel.

Song of the day........Serena Ryder with "Little Bit Of Red"

A couple of years ago I had tickets to a Red Rocks show, and showed up as I usually do before the opening act played. Sometimes the opening acts are a hit, and more times than not they are a miss, or are interesting, but you forget about them after the show has ended. Hands down the best opening act I have ever seen live is this singer/songwriter Serena Ryder and her band. They were absolutely mesmerizing. Hook after hook. Each song was just so well written, and these great melodies. Great guitar parts, amazing keys, just really exceptional music. Serena's vocals are just so powerful, and emotional as well. I purchased her most recent CD, Harmony, and it quickly became one of my favorite albums of all time.

It's obvious I need to add to the collection. I love this song, but still do not own the "Is It O.K.?" album. Just this great acoustic riff opens up the track, and then at the chorus there are these layers of riffs on electric guitar, and keys, and you'll be singing those lyrics hours after the song has ended. Just a great track... Check out her other stuff as well. It's just so, so well written.

Song of the day..... The Amps with "Tipp City"

Pretty much everything that Kim Deal touches is good. From The Pixies, to The Breeders, to The Amps. I've really been digging this 1995 album "Pacer." Just some really good Rock tracks on this album. "Tipp City" has always been one of the highlights off of this album.

Song of the day....Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with "Awake"

Today's song of the day is from the band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, who I saw twice when they were touring off of their debut self titled album. Just a great album by the way. If you don't own it you need to pick it up. Every track is just perfect Rock. It's a very raw Rock album, and it doesn't disappoint. I really dig the crushing guitars that come in at the chorus of today's track, "Awake." Just a great rock track. So, check out "Awake" from Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

I think "Thirteenth Step" is my favorite album by A Perfect Circle. A lot of great tracks on that album. One of my faves is this track "Weak and Powerless." I really dig the guitar riff at the chorus of this track. All of their stuff is pretty good, but this is one of my faves. So, check out "Weak and Powerless."

Song of the day..........Celtic Woman with "Walking In The Air"

Not really too familiar with Celtic Woman. My wife is a fan, so I've listened to some of their stuff here and there. This song has always kind of stuck out to me though. I've always really liked how a rock band can play a set with orchestration, and when it's done well it's down right magical. Here there is no rock band. Just this beautiful orchestration and this incredible vocal. Again, I'm kind of new to the Celtic Woman world, but this is an interesting track. So, check out "Walking In The Air" by Celtic Woman.

Song of the day....AC/DC with "T.N.T."

Over the years AC/DC has produced some of the greatest Rock and Roll tracks ever created. The recipe is always pretty simple. 1)Some power chords, 2)amazing guitar solos, 3)gritty vocals, and 4) some great beats and bass to drive it all home. There were some great songs from the Bon Scott era of AC/DC, but maybe one of the greatest, that received air play, in my mind is the track "T.N.T." From the opening E power chord to the swirling distortion at the end of the track...it's pretty text book AC/DC. Check out this video from back in 1976 of "T.N.T." live. It's today's song of the day.

Song of the day.........Meat Loaf with "Blind As A Bat"

I've never really been a fan of Meat Loaf to be honest. When I met my wife she was a huge fan, and I started really liking some of his material. The stuff that wasn't overplayed on the radio. This song is off of his 3rd or 4th album I believe. What can I say? I really like this track. This is probably in my top 5 Meat Loaf songs of all time. Just really good. So, check it out.

Song of the day...........Faith No More with "Midlife Crisis"

Today's song of the day is by the band Faith No More, and is one of my favorite tracks off of the album Angel Dust. Saw these guys live for the first time this past summer, and they played an amazing show. The Angel Dust album was in my CD player pretty frequently back in my high school days. I remember staying up late one night to watch the Tonight Show when they played it live. So great that YouTube exists so you can see this great TV music moment again. So, check out Faith No More playing "Midlife Crisis" on the Tonight Show.
