Song of the day......The Amps with "Bragging Party"

Today's song of the day is from a post Breeders band of Kim Deals called The Amps. They released their only album back in 1994, and it's interesting. I've heard a few tracks off of it, and really like this track "Bragging Party." It's got maybe a mellower feel than some of Kim's stuff with the Breeders, but it's good stuff. Song of the day.........Muse with "Hate This & I'll Love You"

I recently discovered Muse, and really like their material. Every album is really unique, and that is hard to find with a lot of bands. To me, none of their albums sound similar. They are always surprising, and constantly moving in different directions. One of the standouts for me on their "Showbiz" album is this track "Hate This & I'll Love You." When I listen to Muse I hear a modern Rock band, but I also hear glimpses of classical music, stadium rock of the '70's, and modern Rock music all at the same time. I really like their sound. So, check out this track.......

Song of the day......Drain S.T.H. with "Black"

How about some all-female, Heavy Metal from Sweden for your Monday? Saw these guys in concert at Red Rocks back in the early 2000's and I was really impressed. Both of their albums are really good. So, check out "Black" off of their 2nd album titled "Freaks of Nature."

Song of the day......Garbage with "Medication"

Today's song of the day comes to us from one of my favorite bands Garbage. I've always been impressed by the songwriting by this band. Just these beautiful songs. I think I've mentioned before that I am very fond of the incorporation of synth and keys in Rock music. Guitars are great, but when you add keys you suddenly get this depth to the songs that wouldn't be there with guitars alone. If I had to pick a few bands that by my definition do a great job of incorporating synth and keys into Rock music this band would certainly make the list. It's a lot of fun seeing these guys live and see Duke and Steve switch between guitars and keys mid song. Then you add the percussion of Mr. Butch Vig, and the vocals of Shirley, and you've got a recipe for some amazing material. Today's song is "Medication" off of the Version 2.0 album. The original has these over driven guitars that come in at the choruses, but this live version is stripped of those in favor Steve playing a clean guitar, and Duke playing synth. This is the first time that I've heard this live, and I really like this stripped down version. So, check this out, and if you don't already own Version 2.0 then what in the world are you thinking. It's a must own.....

Song of the day.........Muse with "Bliss"

Today's song of the day is one of my favorites off of Muse's "Origin of Symmetry" album. The synth part that runs throughout this song is what really caught my ear when I heard this for the first time. It's just got this great sound. This complete album is a great piece of music to own, but for today let's check out "Bliss."

Song of the day.......Type O Negative with "Cinnamon Girl"

Maybe one of the most obscure covers that I've ever heard is Type O Negative's take on the Neil Young classic "Cinnamon Girl." On paper it sounds really odd......A Heavy Metal group doing a cover of a Neil Young song, but it works, and it works really good. It's one of my favorite covers to be honest. So, check out "Cinnamon Girl."

Song of the day........Drain STH with "Mind Over Body"

Today's song of the day is from the Rock band Drain STH. I saw them live in the late '90's and they blew me away. Just a really good all-female Rock band. Really dug both of their albums, and am really bummed that they are no longer a band. Check out this track from their first album "Horror Wrestling." Click below to check out "Mind Over Body."

Song of the day..........Brad with "The Day Brings"

Today's song of the day is one of my favorites from the '90's. It's off of the 2nd album from the rock band Brad titled "Interiors." The album is great from start to finish, but the song that really stands out on the album is "The Day Brings." When I heard it for the first time it honestly reminded me of how powerful a piano or keyboard can be in a rock song. It's what really drives this song, and so many of the songs from the album. "The Day Brings" is just this beautiful work of music. So, start your Monday off right by listening to Brad's "The Day Brings."
